Honeysuckle High

It was the first weekend of May, and the weekend weather was perfect—pollen dying down, temperatures in the 70’s-80’s, and low humidity. We had a leisurely alfresco lunch at a local restaurant to celebrate a friend’s birthday and then enjoyed cocktails with friends on their screened porch in the evening. That day alone was enough to warrant the thought, “Life is good.”

But wait, the next day was a continuation of the contentment. With the morning temps in the high 60’s, we loaded up the bikes and hit the Greenway. We were pleasantly surprised to get our first whiff of honeysuckle as we set out and then were overwhelmed with the scent for several miles. The path was lined with blooming honeysuckle vines on both sides, and we must have hit the honeysuckle high that day.  Sounds like a song title, doesn’t it? Worthy of John Denver?  You decide.

It was so beautiful that we were inspired to ready our screened porch for spring, including hanging a new “hubby handcrafted” light fixture.  After two hours of hard work, we were more than ready for the next phase of the day—relaxing on the clean porch and then dinner under the new light. All these porch activities will soon be followed by weekend mornings ensconced on the glider with coffee and the paper, the dog at our feet and the cat on the prowl chirping at the birds.

  Yes, indeed, “Life is good.”
